A new dawn (serpent)

You might remember that I picked up the Dawn Serpent as a versatile Enforcer option for our Ten Thunders crews (Last Blossom and Oni at the time of writing this post) - well here it is in all its long and awkward-looking-when-on-its-base glory:

The Dawn Serpent is one of those miniatures that is almost impossible to get a decent picture of! Obviously, as a 3D real life object it is much better!  There was nothing hugely awkward about the assembly of this kit - but for some reason it wasn't an enjoyable build. 🤷  Still, I'm glad to have it as an option and it should be an interesting model to paint too.

Experimental Reinforcements

Today I've got the reinforcements for the Experimental keyword to add to the McMourning collection - these are all on resin bases from Fenris.  I started with the Surgical Staff box - which I mostly got for Rafkin:

This sinister embalmer was simple to assemble.

The box also includes a trio of Guild Autopsies:

Although not well-rated by Malifaux players, these miniatures are really fun (for reanimated corpses) so I'm glad to have them in the collection!

Finally the box includes a pair of Nurses - I'd already got two for McMourning's crew so these I based in my normal way to use as part of the Asylum keyword with Dr Grimwell:

These two were a little fiddly - but not too bad overall.

I also assembled the Stitched and Sewn box - starting with the pair of Kentauroi:

These were really easy to put together - the spear and arms were the trickiest parts, but even they were easy enough.

Finally for the keyword there is the trio of Little Gassers:

These undead Gremlins weren't as bad as I initially feared when I saw the sprue! Some of the gas cloud bits were less than cooperative when gluing but I think they look good when done.

That finishes off McMourning's keyword so I've got maximum flexibility when picking a crew for him!

A Barrel of Laughs

Today I'm sharing a little something for the Bayou - primarily for Mah Tucket, but as it's an Out Of Keyword model (I don't have Tri-Chi) it can also join Ophelia and Som'er Teeth too.  It's the iconic Whiskey Golem (Wyrd have a giant version that appears at conventions):

Yes, it's a giant whiskey barrel robot (of doom)!  It was actually fairly simple to assemble - and like the rest of our Bayou collection I've used a Tiny Worlds scenic resin base (50mm in this case).

I'd still like a few more bits for the Bayou (maybe even adding Zoraida) - but I need to get lots more scenic bases first as I've only got a couple of big ones left 😅

A Stitch in Time...

I'm sharing today the Nerverborn Versatile box I bought - the Puppet Show.

I started with Vasilisa as she seemed the least fiddly build:

And she was indeed an easy build! I particularly like one of her arms reaching into her satchel to take out a reel of cotton ready for her to stitch together one of her summons...

Which as it turns out are the remainder of the box! (OK, so there's some others she can summon but there are the easiest in-game to bring into play!)

The trio of Wicked Dolls were fiddlier than Vasilisa, but still fairly simple - only their small size was a fiddly-factor:

I think these are a fun addition to the Neverborn collection - and as they are Versatile if we add another Neverborn master they can also be used in their crew too.

Foundry Reinforcements

Today I've got the rest of the Foundry keyword to add to the Mei Feng Crew Box, Rail (now Metal) Golem and Metal Gamin I had from last edition.

I started with the Explosive Material box and began with Neil Henry:

Neil was an easy build - and he provides the Foundry collection with another beater.

The box also includes Willie the demolitionist:

Willie was pretty easy - thankfully his cigar(ette?) isn't separate (no guarantee with Wyrd minis!).

I also assembled the Bayou Engineering box set - starting with Sparks LeBlanc, the mechanic of the Foundry:

There's nothing tricky about the assembly of Sparks.

I then assembled the Mechanized Porkchop, a robot pig invented by Sparks:

This miniature is really easy to assemble - the only difficulty is the lower jaw, which I had to shave down a little in order for it to fit in place.  Nothing tricky, but something to be aware of.

Finally for the Foundry are the trio of Survivors - Gremlins who have been repaired by Sparks:

These are the fiddliest of the bunch - but even then they aren't rage-inducing!

So that's the whole keyword all prepped now - although I am thinking about a second Arcanist crew so Mei isn't on her own... 🤔

Outcasts Reinforcements

Today I'm sharing the assembled Outcasts models I got to reinforce the Viks.  Starting with the Paid in Blood box - first up is the Midnight Stalker:

This serial killer was super simple to assemble - no issues at all.

Next is Hans, providing me with a ranged threat:

He was another easy assembly job!

Finally from the Paid in Blood box is the Malifaux Child, a sinister little copycat:

The arms were the fiddliest bits on this small miniature.

I also got the Hodgepodge Fate - I started with the Hodgepodge Effigy:

This puppet was easy to assemble - but his box-mate the Hodgepodge Emissary was another matter:

The donkey, pack and rider are all easy enough - but some of the varied accoutrements attached to the pack and the panniers don't have particularly obvious places to attach.  Still, as long as they are on there they complete the look.  The reins were a bit of a pig but I managed to get them lined up enough to look alright (thankfully!).

Asami Prepped

The last of the crews I've been prepping today - Asami Tanaka and the Oni keyword.

Starting with the Asami Core Box - a trio of Yokai:

These were fairly easy - with the exception of the crouching Yokai in the front who was a pain in the proverbial.

Next up the rather scary Ohaguro Bettari:

Finally poor Asami herself and her totem, Amanjaku:

Asami's head was a tricky thing indeed - she has a maw set in the back of her head and that, with some of the hair pieces was not an easy fit.

I also had the Ancient Evil box - I started with the three Obsidian Oni:

These were all easy to put together.  You may remember me not being too fussed about the Obsidian Oni, but the miniatures are a lot better than I thought once I had them assembled.

The Ancient Evil box also includes Ama no Zako, a pretty large model:

This was overall pretty simple - the trickiest bit is the scarf!

I also had the Jorogumo box - which contained three of these spider oni:

These are big boys - the only real point of difficulty is the legs (surprise surprise); there's no numbers or other identification on the instructions/sprue (other than knowing which group of 8 legs goes with which body) so make sure to dry fit these before you commit!

Mah Tucket Prepped

I'm sharing the last of the Bayou crews we have today - Mah Tucket (Tricksy keyword).  I started with the Bushwhackers from the Mah core box:

These weren't too bad to assemble - but some of those leaves were individual pieces which was a bit fiddly in places!  I particularly like the one with the decoy stuffed bird on his hat!

Next is that Bayou pin-up girl, Trixiebelle:

She was easy to assemble - can't believe I'll be painting a Gremlin in Daisy Dukes though!!

Finally is Mah Tucket herself and Little Lass, her totem:

Both easy models to assemble - there's gonna be some head whacking going on with those spoons!

You may recall that we added the Rooster Riders for the Tricksy keyword:

These were easy enough to assemble - the difficult part was getting them to stick to the scenic resin bases from Tiny Worlds! 😒

That's another crew/keyword prepped!

Ophelia Prepped

Today I'm sharing the Ophelia crew that I've got prepped - resin bases are from Tiny Worlds.

I started with the core box, and kicked off with the LaCroix Raiders:

These were all pretty easy to put together - nothing too awkward.

I then turned to Ophelia's Henchman, Francois LaCroix:

This tough hombre was another simple model to assemble.

Ophelia has a trio of totems - the Young LaCroix:

I thought the piggybacking ones with the catapult was going to be fiddly, but it actually wasn't too bad at all.

Finally for the core box is Ophelia LaCroix herself:

Another nice and easy assembly job.  Ophelia is probably my favourite Gremlin so I'm glad to finally have her in the collection!

I also got the Copycats box for the Kin keyword.  I started with Pere Ravage (L) and Raphael LaCroix (R):

The pig was a bit fiddly with the various explosives strapped to it but Pere and Raphael were easy enough.

Finally for the Kin I have Rami LaCroix (L) and Sammy LaCroix (R):

Rami's multi-barrel rifle was an absolute pig to do and I'm not super happy with how it turned out, but not much I can do about that now! Sammy on the other hand is a superb mini with all sorts of fun voodoo inspired detail - I'll have to get the box with Flying Piglets so that she can summon them in-game! (and that adds the final LaCroix in Merris too, so it's high on the to buy list!)

The Kin are quite a compact keyword (like Perdita's Family keyword) so it's quite affordable to have a good selection of miniatures to make up crews.

Malifaux Reinforcements

Well as last month was a majorly historical purchases (plenty to share on that front coming soon - but in total 7 new 10mm forces...!), but June is back to Malifaux for my hobby funds (and my hobby prep time!)...

I got quite a bit of a haul in due to some very good deals, so this is going to be a long one!

I started my shopping knowing that I wanted to add to the McMourning options as we were pretty limited with options for list building for him.  I opted first for the Stitched and Sewn box:

This box includes a pair of Kentauroi (the stitched together human-horse monstrosity) and a trio of the really rather cute Little Gassers.

I did umm and aaah a bit back and forth but in the end I did also get the Surgical Staff box for McMourning:

I wanted a Rafkin (the chap in the centre who doesn't know how to wear his mask properly 😁) but finding a second edition one on his own was proving nigh-impossible, so I got this box.  It also adds three Guild Autopsies and a pair of Nurses.  I already have Nurses as my McMourning crew is the second edition version - but as they also have the Asylum keyword I can use them with Dr Grimwell so I'll still get use out of them.

Another crew I wanted to bolster a little was the Viktorias.  I first opted for the Hodgepodge Fate box to add the Outcast Effigy and Emissary to the collection:

This was mostly for the ol' mule Emissary but it doesn't hurt to have another option in the form of the Effigy.

I also picked out the Paid in Blood box of Outcast Versatiles:

Hans (the Vash the Stampede looking guy on the right) can provide some ranged threat and the dapper-but-deadly Midnight Stalker on the left adds (yet another) melee fighter to the Viks.  The box also includes a Malifaux Child - a rather sinister little thing that can copy the actions of others.

I also decided to show some love to Mei Feng - she was my first (and for a long time only) Crew that I had.  I wanted to make sure I had all of her Keyword - I started with the Explosive Material box;

This adds the burly Neil Henry and Mr Wheelbarrow-of-Doom himself Willie (seriously, he has a wheelbarrow full of dynamite).

I also got the Bayou Engineering box - I couldn't resist Sparks LeBlanc the Gremlin mechanic!

This also includes the Mechanized Porkchop and a trio of Survivors (Gremlins with grafted-on machinery parts).

I then turned my attention toward the Ten Thunders collection - I knew I wanted Minako Rei to add to the Last Blossom keyword so I got the Karmic Debt box:

The box also includes the other miniatures that Minako can summon in-game - a pair of Katashiro and the large and fiery Wanyudo.

I did go back and forth a bit but ultimately did get the Crime Syndicate box too for Last Blossom:

This box includes the tactician and teacher Yamaziko (on the left), a pair of Katanaka Crime Bosses (centre) and a couple of Katanaka Snipers (right).  Plenty of options now for Misaki's crew!

I turned towards the options for Asami - but I'm not a fan of the Tengu and Kamaitachi miniatures, so instead opted for the Oni from the Bayou - the Akaname:

These disgusting little Oni provide something quite a bit different to the rest of our collection for this keyword!

Finally for the Ten Thunders I got the Dawn Serpent - it was good value and can be used with both Last Blossom and Oni without the point tax:

I wanted to get a little something for the Neverborn - but didn't feel like the final Nephilim box (Corrupted Hounds).  Instead I opted for a Versatile box (which can see use when we branch out to other Neverborn masters) - Puppet Show:

This adds Vasilisa and a trio of Wicked Dolls she can summon (or who can be cheap hires of course).

Finally, I wasn't intending to get anything for the Bayou - not that there's nothing I want, but that I need to restock on the scenic bases for that faction.  As it turns out I had a couple of spare larger resin bases so decided to get the Whiskey Golem - with the intention of adding it to Mah out of keyword:

That's the lot - chances are I'll come back to Malifaux in a month or two for those Bayou reinforcements, but these gives me plenty to be assembling in the meantime!
