Bronze Guardians of the Desert

I've started working on the various bits and pieces I ordered to carve out my own little corner of the Burning Sands (see Croms Anvil for more on this game).  Whilst the various characters, enemies, animals and monsters are now all prepped and primed and ready in the paint queue, I did decide to paint a pair of bronze statues - partially to try out a desert basing scheme:

These are 28mm Sumerian Infantry from CP Models - namely the Rear Ranks pack. They seem to work pretty well as statues (poses not overly dynamic) and they were good value to boot.  The spears come separately - easy enough to add to the chap with a shield, the guy holding it in both hands needed a bit of bending of hands to get it to fit without bending the spear.  Nothing too difficult, but something to be aware of.

I used a few different tufts on the bases - whilst I want a desert setting I don't want it to be only sand.  I'm sure this will change as I work through the project as I use up (and restock) tufts, but it sets a decent enough tone to work with.

Looting baskets and pots

I have based up the Ancient Temple I've shared here before - I wasn't sure if I should go AC Odyssey pots and baskets and stuff but the consensus on Twitter was to do it, so I did!

Once painted I plan to add lots of flowers around the sides of the Temple - another nod to AC Odyssey!

The pots and baskets are from Crom's Anvil - and I think they look perfect!

I'm waiting on some suitably sized bases for the Forged in Battle Greek Village houses - when they do I'll be including more of the Crom's Anvil accessories to really take them up a level.  I'll share them here when they are done!

Flails and Zweihänder

A couple more units for the Empire army today!

First the rather excellent Flagellants from Crom's Anvil - I'll use these as Bellicose Foot (probably with Hatred upgrade):

These are the models that started this whole project - and along with things like the Steam Tank I posted previously are what elevates it from a Landsknecht force into an Empire army.

Of course one of the iconic units in the Empire are the Greatswords - Pendraken's Landsknechte range has this covered (you may have noticed I used the Zweihänder armed models as Sergeants in the spear/halberd units):

I've still got a few more units from Ostermark to share at some point...and eventually some allies too!

15mm Market Goods and Vases

After seeing my wife playing a lot of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, I knew I needed quite a few pots and baskets and the like to add detail to the scenery collection for our games of Mortal Gods.

I looked around and found that Crom's Anvil had what looked perfect - a set of market goods and a set of vases that are printed to order.  So, of course I ordered a pack of each - and I am very happy with them!

First up the vases - the pack includes a mix of 20 vases and pots in a nice variety of styles - here's a selection to show you the look and the quality:

These will look great dressing the bases of the Forged in Battle buildings - as well as some market stalls that I'll be putting together when my brain gremlins allow!

The market wares pack includes 32 pieces - a mix of barrels, baskets and trays of produce - here's a sample of the different designs in the pack:

The baskets and trays will be very useful for Mortal Gods - the barrels won't work for the setting, but as they are useful for a lot of other periods/settings I'm happy to have some ready for a future project - they could even by kegs for 28mm!

The printing quality of both sets is perfect - I highly recommend them if you need some detail for your 15mm projects!  I can see these working across a lot of ancient settings!

Hairy Religious Fanatics

I spied that Crom's Anvil had made available some rather hairy Religious Fanatics (check them out here) - well that got me to thinking about the old WHFB days.  I'm not about to dig out those rulesets, but there's no harm in a couple of small projects for Dragon Rampant, right? 😏

So I looked around - Pendraken is a fine choice for most troops types for the Empire (Landsknechts), and I saw a supplier of Ogres that will make a fine adversary.  With that in mind, my logic kicked in and I decided the Empire force had to be Ostermark (as it's the first one any Ogres would come to having trudged through the Dark Lands).  Purple and Yellow it'll be then for those not-Landsknechts!

Anyway, project cemented in my mind I placed an order for a twin pack to make up a unit of Bellicose Foot with Hatred!  I'm toying with trying the increased/decreased unit size upgrades from Rebels and Patriots with this project - in which case I'll make this one a Large!

I've taken a quick pic of the three sculpts - they are really nice, the flails will paint up equally well as leather whips or chains:

I'm very impressed and happy with these angry hairy chaps - it's strange sometimes how one little thing can set off a whole new project!
