About me and my hobby

Hello!

I started wargames via the Space Crusade route into 40k (2nd edition came out just as I was getting into it).  From there, WHFB, Necromunda and then stopped.

You know, typical story really.

But then I met my (now) wife and she encouraged me to take back up the hobby I once loved - so back came 40k, back came WHFB, back came Necromunda, quickly joined by Mordheim and Gorkamorka... then I said goodbye to 40k, goodbye to WHFB, but lots of hellos to all manner of new and interesting worlds and time periods thanks to the huge range of games and companies out there.  There's never been a better time to be a miniatures-based wargamer - the range of great value miniatures and rules out there is massive!

Some things you should know:

I'm not a rivet counter.
I take inspiration from history rather than feel constrained by concepts of accuracy (which can often be subjective anyway I find - especially the further back you go in time).

I'm not a tournament or organised play guy.
I enjoy campaigns, story-driven games and epic moments of madness cooked up on the fly - resolved not by poring over rules or calling in a moderator but by whatever is the coolest thing to do in the moment.

Rule of Cool - always.
I model/paint/play everything like it's a movie or a comic.  Rule of Cool is the number one rule I follow in all aspects of the hobby.

Tabletop Plus painting is my aim.
I aim to paint to a standard that I call Tabletop Plus - so not just three colours and done, but not display quality (they are gaming pieces primarily after all).  If they look cool on the table (see Rule of Cool above) then that means they are doing their job rather nicely.

GW?
I don't hate GW, but I don't like the style of most of their 'new' (read anything Storm of Magic onwards really) miniatures any more. I won't be starting a 40k or AoS army ever.

Skirmish gaming is my sweet spot.
I love the options that skirmish games give me - I can afford (and have space for) a far more varied collection when the game expects me to only have up to around 20-50 miniatures or so.

Osprey Blue Books
I'm a sucker for the Osprey 'blue book' range and will generally consider a force for any of them!
