Moshi Wakiza - Shugenja from Far-Off Nippon

A Shugenja, or sorceress, from far-off Nippon, Moshi Wakiza comes from a clan known for its mastery over fire and air magics.  Acting on behalf of her clan leadership, Wakiza has travelled to the ruins of Mordheim seeking answers to questions only she knows.

This is a female Shugenja miniature from the defunct Clan War game - her name, background and colour scheme are all inspired/taken directly from the Moshi Wakiza character from Legend of the 5 Rings (one of my favourites back in Yoritomo's Alliance days).

Yoritomo Ujiro - Shugenja from Far-Off Nippon

The members of the Mantis Clan of Nippon are the most likely to be encountered in places like Marienburg, Remas or L'Anguille – they are traders and diplomats in the main, but also mercenaries and adventurers.

Ujiro is one such mercenary – but he is also a Shugenja, a sorcerer.  He wields elemental magics of sea and storm and will gladly trade his skills for the golden coins of the men of the West.

This is from the long-defunct Clan War game set in the Legend of the 5 Rings world.  I painted the hand as though invoking some magic power using Nihilakh Oxide.

Long ago I used to run a website dedicated to the L5R RPG - my character then was also called Yoritomo Ujiro (but he wasn't a sorcerer), and I decided to re-use the name to represent a little bit of my history in this project.

Ling Quan – Tsunami Legionnaire from Far-Off Cathay

A member of the mystic Tsunami Legion of Cathay, Ling Quan rides to battle upon a wave of water that he summons from far underground.  Using this wave, he is able to move quickly, and strikes his foes with the force of a wave crashing against the cliffs.

Quan travelled to the West, originally with a merchant caravan, to see the world and to report back to his Legion.  When he arrived in the Empire, he heard the stories of Mordheim and decided to investigate this so-called ‘Cursed City’.

This is an old Clan War mini from the Phoenix Clan Tsunami Legion of Elemental Guard. I tried to go for a murky looking water - after all, he is using it to travel around Mordheim!

Pokku - Goblin Warmonger from far-off Nippon

 

A bakemono (goblin) warmonger from far-off Nippon, Pokku was informed by his Chief Shaman to head West.  Leading his greenskin army across the many miles was a difficult task and somewhere in the World’s Edge Mountains he was usurped by his underlings who threw their lot in with a local Orc Chief.

Unwilling to bow his head to a Western Greenskin, Pokku continued onwards.  Feeling the universal call of the krump, he gravitated towards Mordheim, where he sells his services to any greenskin warband who will pay him.

This is a Goblin Warmonger from the now defunct Legend of the 5 Rings wargame Clan War. I liked the samurai style Kabuto, Sode and Kusazuri he is wearing so picked him up to give a little variety to the greenskins offering their services through the Hireling Agency.

Lothar 'the Extractor' - Torturer

Although not considered an honourable method of acquiring information, torture has nevertheless developed into a sadistic art form. Often imitated, but never matched, Lothar ‘the Extractor’ plies his dark trade to any who would make use of it.

It doesn’t matter to Lothar who he works for, as long as he is afforded opportunities to further hone his skills.

This is an old Clan War mini - a Bloodspeaker.  The range of cruel looking blades hanging from his belt  inspired his rather nasty background!

Togashi Kozo - Monk from Far-Off Nippon

Togashi Kozo is a wandering monk of an esoteric order from Nippon who has travelled across the known world – he has spent time in Cathay and Ind, he spent some time with a merchant caravan that travelled across the hobgoblin steppes and now he has arrived in the Empire, finding himself near to the infamous city of Mordheim, Kozo decided to investigate the happenings in that cursed place.

Kozo here is a long OOP Clan War mini from the Dragon Clan line - Togashi Yoshi.

Bayushi Ichigo - Samurai from Far-Off Nippon

Sent by the fearsome Scorpion Clan of Nippon on a secret mission to the Old World, Ichigo is investigating the ruins caused by the 'Falling Phoenix Star' that was foretold by astrologers in his homeland long ago. He sells his skills in the guise of a 'Ronin', although his true loyalties remain with the Daimyo of his Clan.

This is a long OOP Clan War miniature from the Scorpion Clan range; the Crimson Legion.

Li Dan - Cartographer from Far-Off Cathay

During a ten year journey through the West to complete a series of maps for the Dragon Emperor of Cathay, Li Dan was in the wrong place at the wrong time.  As he approached the great city of Mordheim to continue his work, the Comet fell.

The chaos that ensued claimed his bodyguards and apprentices; Li Dan – honour- and duty-bound to complete the maps, now stays in the shanty towns outside Mordheim; joining up with any warband that will allow him to accompany them into the ruins.  He hopes to return home to Cathay once the map of Mordheim is complete, his family's honour depends on it!

This chap is an old courtier mini for AEG's long OOP Clan Wars game.

Iuchi Daisuke - Shugenja from Far-Off Nippon

A member of the Kirin Clan from far-off Nippon, Iuchi Daisuke is a famed wizard and scholar.  Nearing the end of his life, he journeyed to the West to further his studies on astrology.  While meeting with the noted Astrologer, Hans Sternhöhenmesser von Mordheim, Daisuke was witness to the fall of the Comet from a hill-top observatory some distance from the City.

Seeking to get closer to the Comet's point of impact, Daisuke joins up with the various human mercenary warbands, using his magical powers to protect his hirers as they protect him with sword and pistol.

Daisuke here is a miniature for the old Clan Wars miniatures wargame from AEG, set in the Legend of the 5 Rings universe.
