Kirai Prepped
It's been a while since I posted some of my Malifaux builds - but here's the Kirai collection ready to prime!
First up, the Onryo from the Kirai core box:
These were pretty straight-forward to assemble, just taking it slow and steady with the different pieces of robe.
Next up from the core box: the Lost Love and Datsue Ba:
Lost Love on the left was super simple - Datsue Ba on the right was a bit more complicated, but just taking it slow avoided any problems or trickiness.
Finally for the core box - Kirai Ankoku herself and her totem Ikiryo:
Kirai was simple - the only tricky part was the small contact point with the base. This was solved by carefully propping her up, upside down with the base supported while the glue set. The monstrous Ikiryo in contrast was very simple - with only some minor carving to ensure a smooth fit in part of the body.
You might have seen previously that I also got the Vengeful Ghosts and Ravenous boxes to add to Kirai's options.
First, the trio of Gaki from Ravenous:
These were fairly easy to assemble - the heads with various combinations of teeth and tongue sections benefit from some dry fitting, but that's generally true of most Malifaux!
Finishing off the Ravenous box are a pair of Shikome:
These were both really easy to assemble - now, the box comes with clear flying stands for these, but the one with wings down would look bizarre hovering and the other one has no sensible place to attach it. To get round this I cut a small length of leftover sprue and glued it to the base - once that was dry I glues the Shikome's foot to the front of the sprue bit (still only a few toes as a contact point but better than a toenail if I'd tried to go direct to the base!!). I use a bit of milliput to make the sprue less obvious once sand dip was done. I'm happy with how it has turned out - she looks like she is coming down to attack.
I started the Vengeful Ghosts box with the rather cute little spirits in dragon form, the Seishin:
These were all easy to put together - there's a couple of small jaws/horn pieces but nothing too bad at all.
The same can't be said for the pair of Goryo in the Vengeful Ghosts box... these are (rightfully) infamous even amongst the frequently tricky to assemble Malifaux range for their difficulty to put together. The combination of swordsman with the swirling spirits with no clear order of assembly (you can't just assemble all the spirit bits and glue them on to the main body!) make them a challenge.
The crouching one on the right was an absolute pain in the proverbial - I know the spirits aren't quite attached correctly, but the overall effect is acceptable enough. The one on the left was a little easier, and I'm pleased with how it came out - which is fortunate as out of the two that's my favourite pose so will be the one I use when only taking one Goryo in a crew:
I'm glad to have these built - I'm planning on painting the various spirits (ie. everyone except Kirai herself) in a Ju-On/Ring style (white, black hair) - hopefully I can make it look OK!
